This role requires hands-on experience working with a variety of databases, expertise in C# development, and a deep understanding of data pipelines and regulatory sources. The ideal candidate has worked with state-level regulatory datasets and is driven by a passion for making messy public data accurate, complete, and accessible.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain robust ETL pipelines to extract, normalize, and load data from diverse state regulatory systems and public sources
  • Write clean, maintainable C# code to support data processing, transformation, and automation
  • Interact with SQL Server, PostgreSQL, and Snowflake environments to manage structured data storage and querying
  • Build tools to scrape, parse, and standardize complex government datasets, PDFs, spreadsheets, and web portals
  • Collaborate with product and engineering teams to ensure data meets requirements and performance benchmarks
  • Identify and resolve data quality issues, inconsistencies, and anomalies with obsessive attention to accuracy
  • Document processes and maintain data lineage to ensure traceability and reproducibility
  • Stay current on oil and gas terminology, data schemas, and evolving regulatory data formats

Skills & Requirements

  • 3–5+ years of professional experience in a data engineering, ETL development, or backend data processing role
  • Strong proficiency in C# (.NET) for backend development and automation scripting
  • Proven experience working with multiple databases: SQL Server, PostgreSQL, Snowflake (others a plus)
  • Deep understanding of ETL best practices, data normalization, and data integrity principles
  • Experience scraping or processing public regulatory data from state or federal agencies
  • Strong analytical mindset with high attention to detail and a relentless pursuit of data accuracy
  • Solid grasp of oil and gas data, terminology, and use cases
  • Comfortable working with Git, CI/CD, and agile development environments
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills

Preferred Experience

  • Prior work with state oil & gas commissions (e.g., Texas RRC, NDIC, OCC)
  • Familiarity with cloud architecture and providers, Kubernetes, Docker, AWS, Azure, etc..
  • Familiarity with Python, PowerShell, and other basic scripting technologies
  • Experience visualizing data quality or building internal QA dashboards
